Chapter 02 · 330 gallon / 1250 L

The 330.
Same footprint,
different problem.

Twenty percent more product on exactly the same floor space. The catch is seven to thirteen extra inches of height, and height is the dimension that breaks dock doors, trailer loads and mixer clearances.

The only meaningful differences are height, tare and capacity. Everything else — footprint, fittings, handling — is identical.

Note the last row: despite carrying four fewer units, a flatbed of 330s moves about 9% more product. On long lanes that is the whole argument.

When the 330 wins

Four clear cases

  • Floor space is your constraint. Twenty percent more product per square foot, for free.
  • Long freight lanes. Nine percent more product per truck means fewer trucks per year.
  • Fewer handling cycles. One fill, one move and one clean per 330 gallons instead of per 275.
  • Outdoor bulk water. Height is rarely a constraint in a field, and the extra headspace helps with freeze.

When it loses

Four hard stops

  • Door or gate under 62 inches. Add fork height and you will not get it through.
  • Low fill lines or fixed agitators. The extra height eats your clearance.
  • Mezzanines and timber floors. 2,900 lb on a small footprint needs a rating check.
  • Resale plans. The used market is thinner for 330s; 275s move faster.
Measure this

The five-minute fit check

  1. Door height

Lowest point of the opening, including any roller or seal.

  2. Fork lift height

How high the fork sits when it clears the floor — add this to tote height.

  3. Fill clearance

Floor to the underside of your fill lance or mixer mount.

  4. Floor rating

Pounds per square foot where the tote will stand, filled.

Send these four numbers with your enquiry and we will tell you, in one line, whether to buy 275s or 330s.

330 questions

What people get wrong

Why is the height range so wide — 53 to 59 inches?
Two reasons. Pallet type adds or removes an inch or two, and manufacturers tool their bottles differently: some make the 330 taller and narrower, others make it closer to the 275 profile with a deeper bottle. Always ask for the actual measured height of the lot you are buying.
Can I stack 330s two high?
Empty, on sound cages, yes. Filled, static, in a rack designed for it, sometimes. Filled in transit, no — and we will not load them that way regardless of who asks.
Do 330s use the same fittings?
Yes. The outlet is the same 2 inch S60x6 buttress and the fill port is the same 6 inch DN150 as a 275. Every adapter, valve and lid in our accessory range fits both.
Is a 330 cheaper per gallon?
Usually yes, by five to fifteen percent, because the cage and pallet cost is spread over more capacity. That saving disappears instantly if you have to modify a doorway.
